I ran up Mount Olympus today. Not to the top but up 3000ft from the parking lot. It took me about 1 hour 20 minutes going up and only about 55 minutes going down. I was rather disheartened when a walking boy passed me on the uphill. He caught me fast and didn’t run a step, I know because I was keeping an eye on him. I will definitely need to incoprorate walking into my training.
Besides being passed by the walker I felt like today’s run was decent. I kept my heart around 145-150 on the uphill part and slow <125 on the downhill. At least the uphill felt like a real workout and the downhill, well I was just happy to keep the rubber side down. I did take my trekking poles with me, which I don’t think is super smart unless I’m planning on racing with them, and I’m not. I will look at the pictures posted on the Solstice web site to see if people are using sticks. If they are, I will, because God knows I want to be like everybody else. I saw the first rattlesnake of the year and was glad I didn’t have the good sweet doggies along since Bo-Bo likes to hassle with the rattlers.
I do not feel like a champion--yet.
