Not a bad short run today. I ran up the Little Cottonwood Pipeline trail with Shaun from Craig's list. I ran as hard as I could, both up the hill and down it.
The main point of the run (besides staying ahead of Shaun) was to try out my new Gore-Tex mud runners than came today.
They are some rugged mudders and I'll use them like the 4 wheel drive on my truck. Actually, they probably won't seem so burly after I get them broken in.
Another rest day already tomorrow because of the birthday celebration day with mom and dad. The festivities include a pedicure--which is something that I can really use.
Ultramarathon--training to win!

Some days I feel like a champ and some days I feel like a chump. Today was a chump day. i planned to do hill repeats but all day I felt fatigued and almost sick so I opted out. I don't think its over training that has me down. My Uncle John ran 72 miles last week--that's a whirlwind of training. I ran only 49--a gentle breeze.
Even though I couldn't run hills today cause I felt so crappy, I still did seven easy miles at Liberty Park.
Better Miles tomorrow,

I hurt today. I've been worse but still didn't feel like running. I took the dogs for a couple of miles and walked up one hill. Like I said, I hurt.
I might not have ran at all if I hadn't watched the Jazz beat the Warriors. Something about them being winners made me want to be a winner too. So there I was, 11:00 at night, tired, feet sore and knee aching--running my laps at Liberty Park. I only did for miles and they didn't go very fast but they made me feel like a winner. Winners create themselves when they would rather be doing something else. Tonight I took a step towards creating myself.
I've been thinking about the race. Chad finished with the winning woman a Bishop. I cannot keep up with Chad so how is it that I think I can win this race?
I don't know but I do know that I am in it to win it!

Killer training run today, I killed the first half and was killed in the second.
I ran with Chad and Emily and We ran an honest 17--made so by Chad's fancy watch. The run went from the BST from the zoo to past the water towers and then back. I felt perfect for the first 5 or 6 miles. The air was cool, the sun was shining and the trail was nearly dry. Then, running down past where the bobsled turns off, my knee started to kill me. No matter how I changed my stride it was still screaming at every step. I wanted to bail out and hoped the Fish would be walking the dogs and would take me home. Fortunately he wasn't.
Once I turned my back to the wind I started to feel better. Chad recommended the type of running tights that he and Emily use. They not only keep you warm but also have some built in knee supports. Maybe I'll have to try a pair.

5/5/07 Happy Cinco De Mayo
Today's run was advertised at 22 miles but push came to shove, the snow piled up, my feet got soggy and the run was shortened to 13 miles on the Meuller Park Trail.
It went all right, I suppose, I was sluggishly putting up 11 to 12 minute miles. It was all I could do.
Mainly I blame the snow. It started to dump just as I started to run and by the time I was to the top of the hill, there was a good six inches of sloppy wet snow on the ground.
The feeling in my white and wrinkled feet as they came back to life after their soaking inspired me to ask Fish for new gore-tex trail runners for my birthday.

Today was a rest day. Zero miles! I spent my morning focused on the elevation profile for the race. I think I understand it.
The afternoon I spent obsessing about how much I weigh, how little time I have left and how I need to get specific with my training. I need to get in control of my diet--only that can't be my game plan because I'm not sure if I can. I did start on Nutriex yesterday so at least I'll get proper nutrition. As for specific training I need to do those climbs before the race. I also need to train at altitude and I need to do at least one 12 hour training day. I'm not sure how all ofthese things will come about but they will come about.
Big Plans,
Bunny out!

Millcreek Tempo Run
Awesome run today. I met Shuan, a guy from Craig’s list and went to run the Milcreek Pipeline trail. We decided to run 50 minutes (out). As it happens, Shaun is in the habit of running 4 to 5 miles so, to him, a 50-minute run was a long run. I was thinking 50 minutes and then turn around, which worked out well in my favor. We started running and I took the lead but when I stopped after a quarter of a mile to pick up dog poop Shaun passed me. For whatever reason I was none to happy to be passed so I passed him back and then pushed it down to about 8 minute miles, after two miles he was still close behind me so I held the pace, imagining him as every person in "the race" who will want to pass me. I also imagined that my legs were wheels spinning in fast circles and I imagined revving up my rpms to 180 per minute, which is recommended. I think it helped; I was able to hold the eight minute miles.
It rained all day so the trail was wet and covered with mud puddles, I ran around and through them, my socks got wet and I got a blister on my big toe. The blister hurt but I kept pushing it, spinning my wheels and revving my engine. The next thing I knew, I was at the overlook (5 miles out), and in record time! After about a mile on the return trip I realized that Shaun was long gone but I did a good job of maintaining my pace and finally feel like I got a real workout. In fact, I'm looking forward to my rest day tomorrow--my legs are sore and my feet hurt. Wah!
